Drums (Taiko) are woven into the design in gilt thread. Drums have a long history in Japanese culture ranging from forms of communication to religious, military and theatrical uses. Ethically produced by upcycling/repurposing vintage silk originally from a Japanese Obi belt, used to tie Kimono, which dates from the Mid Showa period (40 years +). The cushion reverse is also made from vintage purple obi silk. A great ECO gift!
